The last home game of the season ended in disappointment for the Cincinnati Reds, who were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 on Sunday, Sept. 22. Sunday's game also marked the last game for manager David Bell, who the Reds announced was fired, effective immediately, in a press release on Sept. 22.
"David provided the kind of steadiness that we needed in our clubhouse over the last few seasons. We felt a change was needed to move the Major League team forward. We have not achieved the success we expected, and we need to begin focusing on 2025,” Nick Krall, president of baseball operations, said in the press release.
Bench coach Freddie Benavides will take Bell's place in the last five games of the season. The hunt for the new manager of the Reds is ongoing.
