There are a plethora of amazing music festivals to choose from in this day and age, it can be staggering. Yet, there is none quite like Nelsonville Music Festival.
Only about 150 miles away from Cincinnati and located just outside of Hocking Hills, Stuart's Opera House hosts the "nicest" musical experience to date, quoted by many of the bands performing throughout the weekend. From the family-friendly atmosphere and splashy art and vendors, to the warm, dreamy summer feel.
NMF always boasts top national acts, and this year was no different as headliners Killer Mike, Courtney Barnett and Thee Sacred Souls took to the stage. Grammy Award winner Killer Mike touched on the harsh realities we surround ourselves in, while Barnett brought her rich and powerful millennial wit. The Deslondes brought their own style of rough Cajun swamp twang to the North. Or, if you like something a little more in your face, Frankie and The Witch Fingers got the late-night party started with their in-your-face psych-punk rock.
To keep all parties happy there are multiple designated camping areas. At the crazy "LOUD" camping in Mudville with a late-night stage outside of the main festival, music fans often stayed up late enough to watch the sunrise. For the families, there was also quiet camping available so the young ones attending could grab some well-deserved shuteye. There is also plenty of primitive RV camping for people who aren't quite up to roughing it.
As the weekend draws to a close there are always heartfelt goodbyes, yet most people attending know it's not goodbye forever. It's never a question of, "Will I see you next year?," it's always, "See ya next year." That's why even if it's your first or fifteenth Nelsonville it will always be your favorite fest around.
