Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) announced Friday morning that his wife, Rhonda Massie, died on June 27.

Thomas Massie, a libertarian-leaning Republican given the nickname “Mr. No” for his contrarian voting tendencies, posted a memorial for his wife on X, formerly known as Twitter, on the morning of June 28. According to the post, Massie and his wife were together for over 35 years.

Thomas Massie said Rhonda Massie was his “high school sweetheart, the love of [his] life for over 35 years” and “the smartest kindest woman [he] ever knew.” In the post, he shared pictures of the couple as well as their four children.

Thomas Massie also spotlighted his wife’s achievements and devotion to her family. He shared that Rhonda Massie was valedictorian at the couple’s high school, and she earned a mechanical engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The couple spent last week touring Mount Rainier with their grandson, he said in the post.

Many of Thomas Massie’s colleagues have shared condolences with the family on social media since the announcement, including Reps. James Comer (R-Ky.), Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.), Andy Barr (R-Ky.) and Warren Davidson (R-Ohio).

“Britainy and I are deeply saddened for U.S. Congressman Thomas Massie and his family at the tragic news of the passing of his wife, Rhonda. Please join us in sending prayers of peace and comfort,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said on X on June 28.

Rhonda Massie’s cause of death has not yet been disclosed to the public.
