Impersonating Legends
Two contemporary music stars have been cast as two legendary ones in a pair of recently announced projects. The L.A. Times reports that Andre 3000 of Outkast will finally portray iconic Rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix in the biopic All Is by My Side, even though it doesn’t have the backing of the Hendrix estate (which makes using Hendrix’s music a lot trickier). Meanwhile, Country music legend Loretta Lynn introduced quirktastic actress/singer Zooey Deschanel on stage at the Grand Ole Opry’s Ryman Auditorium as the star of an upcoming Broadway production of Lynn’s life story. Both seem like good choices, though we doubt Loretta Lynn has ever had to consult her phone to find out if it’s raining outdoors. And Jimi would never have worn a bow tie.

Bad Vibrations
Before you plop down hundreds of dollars for a Beach Boys concert this summer, think twice, because if Obama is re-elected, “you’re fucked,” according to long-term Beach Boys temp Bruce Johnston. Better save the dough you had marked for concert tickets to finish your underground bunker instead. Johnston was signing autographs in New York recently when, according to TMZ, Johnston said, “Obama’s an asshole … unless you’re interested in never having any money and being socialized.” Though it appears Johnston is a lifelong Republican, his passionate outburst might just have been the result of him being a dick. He also called Mitt Romney “the Republican asshole.”

Mercury Rising?
Freddie Mercury is the latest music star to be brought back from the dead in the name of making other people a lot of money. Mercury was resurrected in London as a digital projection to sing one line at the 10th anniversary performance of the We Will Rock You musical based on Queen tunes. Guitarist Brian May insisted that it was not a hologram but “an optical illusion of sorts,” and he also lamented that Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg beat them to the punch, saying, “It’s a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we’ve been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while.” Oh, SNAP! As of press time, Dre, Snoop and hologram Tupac had yet to release a diss track in response.
