The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra is fusing several genres in a cutting-edge, “mixtape” performance at Music Hall next month.

Featuring the music of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur along with Gustav Mahler’s “Resurrection” symphony, “The Resurrection Mixtape” will highlight the relationship between rap, hip-hop and classical music, as well as the lives and legacies of two of the most iconic artists of the 20th century.

“Biggie and Tupac’s words will ring out in ‘Hypnotize,’ ‘Ambitionz az a Ridah,’ ‘California Love,’ ‘Juicy,’ ‘Keep Ya Head Up,’ ‘Sky’s The Limit’ and more, as live emcees perform alongside a full symphony orchestra,” reads an event description.

“The Resurrection Mixtape” will feature Jecorey Arthur and Marcus Tenney as emcees, India Carney as vocalist, TaRon Lockett on drums and Nick Clark on bass. Concert creator Steve Hackman will be the conductor. Guests are encouraged to get up, dance, rap and engage with other concertgoers and the artists on stage.

Before the concert, guests can enjoy specialty drinks and entertainment from Elementz, a hip-hop cultural arts center in Over-the-Rhine.

The concert will be held at Music Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $35 and general admission.

Music Hall, 1241 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine. Learn more and buy tickets at cincinnatisymphony.org.
