Over-the-Rhine bar The Drinkery is set to close permanently next month, but the space will remain under 4EG’s ownership and be rebranded as a cocktail lounge.

The Drinkery is slated to close mid-August, with renovations on the space beginning at the end of the month and a planned reopening as the lounge, called Nice Life, by December.

“The Drinkery has been a Main Street landmark since 2010. When we purchased it in 2023, we saw the potential to introduce a youthful, new experience to Over-the-Rhine. For the past 14 years, it’s been the backdrop for countless memories, and we look forward to creating many more for years to come,” 4EG managing partner Ben Klopp said in a press release.

Nice Life will feature a laid-back, modern rustic look that 4EG says embodies a playful, free-spirited atmosphere. Patrons can expect a stylish new interior, including updated banquette seating and high-top tables; vibrant vinyl flooring and staging; floral wall coverings; and trendy touches like deer-antler chandeliers, neon artwork, rose-gold disco balls and a photo booth. The renovation also includes plans to update the bar top, sound system and restrooms, and there will be a private event space available to rent.

The menu will feature trendy, handcrafted cocktails and a vast selection of beer, wine, liquor and Jell-O shots — a nod to The Drinkery. There will also be nightly specials and a weekday happy hour.

Along with the cocktails will also be a focus on dancing, with Nice Life hosting live cover bands, local DJs and karaoke nights as part of its programming.

The Drinkery will hold a farewell party, “The Final Circus,” on Sunday, Aug. 18 from noon to close. The party will offer $3 drafts, wells and cans, and from noon to 6 p.m. there will be carnival games, complimentary hot dogs, merchandise discounts and a staff dunk tank. The night will end with karaoke from 10 p.m. to close.
