A new place to enjoy wine in Walnut Hills celebrated its grand opening Friday.

Market Wines, located at 767 E. McMillan St., is a retail shop with a carefully curated selection of wine and beers. It also offers wine tastings and beer taps, and there is both indoor seating and a patio where customers can relax and enjoy their beverages. Owner Lynn Love, a retired Cincinnati firefighter and paramedic, says it’s “a new experience each time, but with the same people.”

Love worked for the city for 30 years and said she spent some of her retirement on housework and gardening, but her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for wine pushed her to get into the wine business. She went to work at Market Wines in Findlay Market, learning the ins and outs of the business from owner and mentor Michael Maxwell for several years before opening the Walnut Hills shop. Love says wine should be fun and relaxing, and she wants her store to be all about the experience.

"The only palate that matters is yours, and it should be an enjoyable experience,” she said in a press release.

She adds she’s excited to join the Walnut Hills community and welcome new and familiar faces to the store, saying Market Wines isn’t about her; it’s about the space and the community.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Market Wines was held Friday morning. Love, former vice mayor Yvette Simpson, Cincinnati City Council Member Reggie Harris, Olympic gold medalist and Cincinnati School Board Vice President Mary Wineberg and Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney all spoke at the grand opening.
