The West Side of Cincinnati may soon be getting a new upscale restaurant.

At their bi-monthly meeting Monday night, Green Township trustees approved a purchase contract with Cooper’s Hawk, a restaurant and winery chain based in Illinois. The agenda from the meeting states the sale would come from a portion of property located at 6194 Harrison Ave., next to Lowe’s in the Dent neighborhood.

During the meeting, Green Township Administrator Frank Birkenhauer said the township purchased the property a few years ago with the intent of putting a police station there. However, Birkenhauer said there was no need for the police station to be at the front of the property, and the lot provided more space for retail development in the future. Soon after the township began to grade the site, they were approached by a broker representing Cooper's Hawk, who had an interest in the property and later submitted a purchase contract for consideration to the township.

"Part of our strategic plan for Green Township is to bring new and unique retail opportunities to our residents and our businesses and our guests in Green Township," Birkenhauer said.

"All of us elected officials, management team, staff here at Green Township are excited about tonight's signing of the purchase contract to land a new Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurant in Green Township. Today's a first step in meeting a key milestone and we'll closely work with Cooper's Hawk's design and real estate ... to meet their due diligence requirements over the next few months," said Trustee Triffon Callos. "This is exactly what our residents have asked for in terms of a new and different upscale restaurant and retail to Green Township."

The township says if all permitting, zoning and other approvals go through, they plan on Cooper's Hawk opening in late fall of 2025.

"It's an exciting day; it's a game-changing day in Green Township," Callos added.

Cooper’s Hawk is described as an upscale casual eatery that also offers a full-service bar, a private dining room and a Napa-style tasting room. The restaurant offers a sprawling menu of American-fusion fare that features flavors from around the world, including pasta and risotto dishes, seafood, steaks, burgers and sandwiches and a handful of vegetarian entrées. Cooper’s Hawk also has an extensive wine portfolio of its own creations, including reds, sparkling wines, sangrias and more. It also has the largest wine club in the United States.

The Greater Cincinnati area is currently home to two Cooper’s Hawk locations: one in Kenwood at 8080 Montgomery Road and the other at 7490 Bales St. in Liberty Township.
