Thursday’s tumultuous presidential debate was characterized by lost thoughts, false statements and fiery insults. In the wake of the chaos, Ohio Democrats have remained fairly silent while Ohio Republicans are attacking President Joe Biden’s performance.

Both President Biden and Former President Donald Trump hurled insults at one another throughout the debate, slandering everything from immigration policies to the other’s golf game. While Trump hyperbolized his accomplishments as president and made many false claims, Biden struggled to maintain focus and articulate his ideas. Biden appeared lost in the conversation, wrestling to match Trump’s energy.

After Biden’s rough performance at the debate, many media outlets, including CNN, Al Jazeera and The New York Times, are reporting widespread panic among Democrats.

Neither candidate has been officially selected as their party’s nominee, prompting some to suggest new options for the Democratic nomination.

In the Cincinnati area, Democrats have been noticeably quiet on social media. Rep. Greg Landsman (D-Ohio) has not commented on Biden’s performance or his intention to support him. Neither have Ohio state Reps. Dani Isaacsohn and Cecil Thomas, nor state Sen. Catherine D. Ingram.

Cincinnati city government has also been silent. No members of the city’s fully Democratic council, nor Mayor Aftab Pureval, have made comments on social media about the debate’s results.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) also did not react to the debate on social media.

Several Ohio Republicans, like Sen. J.D. Vance (D-Ohio), one of Trump’s potential vice president picks, are using the debate to attack Biden’s policies and support Trump.
