You Can Help Skyline Break a Guinness World Record for its 75th Birthday

Skyline needs you to upload a bunch of wiener pics to Instagram for its birthday.

Skyline Chili is asking fans to help it break a Guinness World Record by uploading 500 pictures of its coneys to Instagram in a single hour on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

These are the only kind of wiener pics acceptable on Instagram: For its upcoming 75th birthday, Skyline Chili is looking to break a Guinness World Record for most hot dogs uploaded to Instagram in a single hour, and it needs your help.

Skyline will host a public birthday party on Fountain Square on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The world record attempt will take place that day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (ET, for you Skyline fans in a different time zone). To break the record, Skyline needs at least 500 images of its cheese coneys uploaded to Instagram in that timeframe.

To help grant Skyline its birthday wish, follow these steps:

  • Post a Skyline cheese coney photo on Oct. 9 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (ET)
  • The uploaded photo needs to include the hashtag #SkylineChiliWorldRecord.
  • The photo needs to be uploaded to your feed/grid. Instagram stories won’t count.
  • Make sure the hot dog in the photo is clearly identifiable for the judges.
  • You don’t need to be at Fountain Square to participate, but the photo does need to be uploaded in that designated timeframe.

“Celebrating 75 years of Skyline Chili with our fans and aiming to set a Guinness World Records title is a fantastic way to mark this milestone,” Sarah Sicking, Skyline vice president of marketing and brand management, said in a press release. “We can’t wait to see everyone’s coneys and make history together!”

The first 250 people to upload qualifying cheese coney photos to Instagram for this world record attempt will receive a $15 Skyline gift card. All participants will also be entered for the chance to win 500 free cheese coneys, which will be awarded in the form of a $1,500 Skyline gift card.

In addition to the world record attempt, Skyline’s 75th birthday part at Fountain Square will include food vendors like Graeter’s Ice Cream, Dewey’s Pizza and, of course, Skyline. Mascots from the Bengals, Reds, FC Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati, Xavier University and the Cyclones will be there to greet partygoers, and Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval will also be there to celebrate.

Roebling. Construction on the Roebling was completed in 1866 and, at the time, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Construction on the Brooklyn Bridge wasn’t completed until 1883. Flying PigsCincinnati loves its flying pigs – but why? It goes back to our roots as Porkopolis – or, basically, a lot of pigs were slaughtered here for our booming pork-packing industry. And in the ‘80s, to celebrate Cincinnati’s bicentennial, artist Andrew Leicester created the Cincinnati Gateway, a sculpture in Bicentennial Commons in Sawyer Point. The sculpture features four smokestacks with winged pigs atop each one, meant to represent the souls of all the pigs killed so Cincinnati could flourish. The concept wasn’t a hit at first with some, with pushback coming from then-mayor Charlie Luken, but Cincinnatians later embraced the flying pigs and they became a symbol of the city – from the iconic statues you can find around town to the name of our annual marathon. Telling People We Almost Had a SubwayCincinnatians often speak of our legendary abandoned subway tunnels so reverently that they’re almost mythical. The reality is more a sad, doomed-from-the-start tale of inflation, poor budgeting and litigation. Real work on the subway began in 1920, but inflation following World War I in the two years prior to that had raised the costs of construction and caused a shortage of materials (wow, this sounds familiar), so the city planned to raise funds to complete the subway later. However, funds ran out in 1927 and by that time, the subway construction was causing the foundations of buildings along its route to crack, so then came the lawsuits. There were several attempts to complete the subway in later years, but it wasn’t meant to be. The project was scrapped in 1948 and is now used to house a water main and optical fiber cables. It’s also a popular urban exploration spot.
