West Chester’s The Cone, one of Greater Cincinnati’s most iconic creamy whips, is looking for a new owner.

“After fifty years of operation by generations of the Wren family, it is time for us to retire,” owner Keith Wren shared on social media Saturday.

The Cone, most recognized by its large ice cream cone-shaped exterior, opened under Ken and Louella Wren in 1973 as K&W Creamy Whip in the Lockland-Reading area. Operations moved into the cone-shaped building in West Chester in 1995.

Wren wrote that the family is looking for a buyer who will continue The Cone’s legacy, saying their goal is for new ownership to continue their ice cream traditions and family recipes, including their secret-recipe orange and vanilla ice cream, and pursue future growth opportunities in Greater Cincinnati.

The Cone sits on multiple parcels of real estate and includes indoor and outdoor seating, walk-up windows, a drive-thru, kiddie rides, a retail sales area and plenty of parking, says Wren.

Operations at The Cone will continue as usual until a buyer is found. Its last day of the 2024 season will be Sunday, Sept. 29.

“We appreciate all of the support over the years and loved being able to serve such amazing customers! We also couldn’t have done any of this without our amazing Cone Family from the past 30 years. We appreciate you all!” Wren shared.
