A ragtag troupe of circus performers is coming to Cincinnati this weekend, but they won’t be arriving by plane, train or automobile.

Like a storybook come to life, Flotsam River Circus will arrive in the Queen City on a handmade raft that will float them down the Ohio River. The troupe, made up of musicians, circus artists and puppeteers, will be docked at Sawyer Point for three nights of performances Friday-Sunday, Sept. 6-8.

This summer, Flotsam has been making its way down the Ohio River and stopping in towns and cities along the way to perform. The tour started in Pittsburgh in August and will end in Paducah at the end of this month. The group has been performing on their raft since 2019, entertaining tens of thousands of people across more than 1,000 miles of river.

All the Cincinnati shows will be held along the Serpentine Wall starting at 6 p.m. The shows are family-friendly and free to attend, but Flotsam says donations help keep the show going. They accept cash and Venmo at “rivercircus.”
