A new shop by a pop culture fan for pop culture fans is getting ready to open its doors in Over-the-Rhine.
Pop Cultur’d Co. is a pop culture merch and gift shop from Northern Kentucky University grad Livia Ganshirt, who began her business making fan merch for her online boutique during the pandemic. Ganshirt will open her first brick-and-mortar store at 6 W. 12th St. this September.
Ganshirt says that after graduating, she noticed a lack of options for “fan merch” — merchandise or goods sold to fans of particular bands, films, TV shows, etc. She started to make her own to sell online, and the business took off.
“I just didn’t see a lot of fan merch available — and what was available wasn’t cute,” Ganshirt said in a press release. “So, I started making my own. What I make is ‘by a fan for a fan’ and, based on my own style and preferences, I feel like I have a good understanding of what people are looking for.”
Ganshirt makes t-shirts and sweatshirts using both sublimation and ink-dye techniques, as well as embroidery. Her collection ranges from pop stars like Taylor Swift and Harry Styles to iconic TV shows like Friends and Gilmore Girls. She also makes new options available based on changes in pop culture.
Along with apparel, Pop Cultur’d Co. also offers accessories, decor, stickers, puzzles, wall art, prints, posters and more. The shop will be open concept, where customers can watch Ganshirt use her machinery and make shirts.
“This is such a fun concept that we are excited to have right here in OTR,” Lindzie Gunnels,
3CDC’s director of commercial leasing, said in the release. “It really adds to the variety of retailers in the neighborhood, with a diverse range of small shops within walking distance of Pop Cultur’d’s new space.”
Ganshirt is hosting a soft opening on Friday, Aug. 16. Visitors can stop in Pop Cultur’d Co. and check out the space from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The grand opening will be on Saturday, Sept. 7 with a permanent jewelry pop-up by Other Perfect Things in the store.
