On a Limb on a limb
Cincinnati Jazz trio On a Limb released its eponymous debut album on Jan. 11 on most major digital platforms. The group — featuring pianist Andrew Haug, bassist Noah Simionides and drummer Charlie Schefft — has described its sound as “Umbrella Jazz,” a reflection of the musicians’ broad musical tastes and tendency to interpret music by favorites from Coltrane and Chopin to The Beatles and Sufjan Stevens.

The group’s original compositions (largely written by Haug) also reflect those influences and are driven by the musicians’ telepathic improvisational skills. Together since 2016, On a Limb has performed throughout the Midwest, including a 2017 appearance at the Dayton Jazz Festival, where they played alongside Brooklyn’s Glenn Zaleski Trio.

In honor of the new album, this Thursday, Jan. 17, On a Limb plays The Greenwich (2442 Gilbert Ave., Walnut Hills, the-greenwich.com). The trio will play two sets beginning at 7 p.m. There is no cover charge. On a Limb CDs and download cards will be available at the show.
