It takes nature thousands of years to make a brilliant green emerald. It only took Sammy Wulfeck, Brian Kitzmiller, Peter Underhill and Ric Hickey a matter of days to make The Emeralds. And from the start, they were brilliant in spite of being green..

Election Day approaches, and Tristate residents once again have multi-page ballots to consider. Who has time to fully research every issue and candidate, especially when ballots are getting longer, not shorter? A lot of nonprofit organizations do.

One major party candidate - the incumbent Republican - is known more for her frequent public flubs, like calling a disabled former Marine 'a coward' for disagreeing with her on the Iraq War, than for offering any sort of coherent legislative agenda.

Recently, I was invited to a turtle fry in Ripley, Ohio, an hour east of Cincinnati along U.S. Route 52. According to local legend, it’s been going on for generations. I went with three questions: 1) How do you catch a turtle 2) How do you prepare it and 3) Is it worth eating? Like all events in Ripley, there was a fascinating crowd.

This year's incoming college freshmen finally have arrived on campus, and the stress of applications and the excitement of the admissions process have wound down. A newfound freedom awaits, but with it comes an immersion into a new social life that current students say can be extremely overwhelming at times.
