WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING INSTEAD OF THIS?

FamousAches, BitTorrents and SuperBowels

The musical universe was in perfect order Thanksgiving week. Willie Nelson was busted on his tour bus for marijuana possession by U.S. Border Patrol in Texas. The cop said he smelled pot when the bus door opened (though, if fishing for reasonable cause for a search, he could have just gone with “It was Willie Nelson’s tour bus”).

Bieber Threesome, Kings of 'Glee'on, Aerosmith

That one random kid Kanye West was following on Twitter has been replaced ... by Justin Bieber. The two tweeted about working on a song together and, not long after, the duo turned into a trio with the addition of Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon. While little Bieber referred to the collaboration as "EPIC," we're all sitting back with our "Huh?" faces on.

Kanye Tweets, Wyclef and a Classical Critic

Kanye West is at that level of "tabloid celebrity" where joining Twitter is such a huge event that it makes headlines. And, Kanye's buddy, comedian Aziz Ansari, has been "Predicting Kanye Tweets" on his Twitter account, dropping potentially prophetic gems like, "Hans Zimmer needs to write a score for whenever I eat a cookie … when I eat cookies shit is mad suspenseful."

The Floods, Kanye and Comics

'Rockabye Baby!' albums are supposed to appeal you adult sensibilities while providing some calm ambient noise for your infant, but this time they've gone too far with their first foray into Hip Hop: 'Lullaby Renditions of Kanye West.'

Bonnaroo Buzz, Hip Hop Putin and Hecklers

Ben & Jerry's has topped itself with its most recent specialty offering. We're not exactly sure how the new "Bonnaroo Buzz" flavor — a blend of coffee and malt ice creams with "whiskey caramel swirls" and English toffee — ties in to the big summer music festival, but maybe the Gatorade/ pot/ Patchouli-flavored formula didn't test-market well.

Hip Hop and the GOP

Is it time for a Hip Hip (re)definition ... again?

Call me crazy, but lately I've been thinking that Hip Hop has more in common with the Republican Party — more specifically, the much discussed "Far Right" — than we might ever have imagined. Both entities are suffering an identity crisis resulting in crazy in-fighting.

Shaming Kanye, Freaking Out to Metallica and Changing the Buffalo Killers' Name

After eviscerating The Jonas Brothers (well, their Disney overlords, more precisely) earlier this season, the creators of 'South Park' took on the egomaniacal Kanye West in a recent episode ... and might have actually caused the Hip Hop superstar to reconsider his arrogant ways.

The Auto-Tune Explosion

Overly pitch-corrected songs ruled the airwaves in 2008. Is it a cheat or treat?

0 Comments · Tuesday, December 23, 2008
Kanye West's warbling, robotic voice comes courtesy of a studio trick that corrects the pitch of a vocalist (i.e. it forces the sound into key). Best known as "Auto-Tune," the brand name of the software, the corrective tactic is the overused trend of the year, audible on Pop, R&B and Hip Hop songs up and down the charts. Today's artists and producers have gone from faking it to flaunting it.

Sweet Child '09

A look into the crystal day-planner to see the year's upcoming music news

It's almost beyond belief that we're on the cusp of the last year of the first decade of the new millennium. What does 2009 hold for us? Axl Rose will release a 10-CD box set of material that was considered for 'Chinese Democracy,' while the late Tupac Shakur will mount his first posthumous tour.

Katy Perry, LaVell Crawford, Kanye West, lots of new art and much more

MUSIC: KATY PERRY, cheeky former Christian Pop singer, will most likely perform her bi-curious hit "I Kissed a Girl" at the Van's Warped Tour.
