For a long time, 700 WLW has been Cincinnati’s top radio station. The 50,000-watt AM behemoth has been the home of local staples like Bill Cunningham and Jim Scott and enjoyed a huge lead in the radio ratings. But what would happen if “The Big One” was no longer number one? We might find out in December, when a shakeup in radio station rankings could accompany ratings giant Arbitron’s announcement of its fall numbers.

When Minimum Gauge first read the Los Angeles Times article on a new genre of music called “Jerk,” we thought, “Hmmm, seems odd Gene Simmons would merit an entire genre of music.” Turns out, Jerk is actually a Hip Hop subgenre that bubbled up from L.A. a couple of years ago.

It sounds trite, but it’s true. Lisa — the sassy queen of alternative rock on The Sound (94.9 FM) who goes just by her first name, as kooky radio per sonalities tend to do — got her start in radio as a listener.
