WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING INSTEAD OF THIS?

A Day in the Life

I run into my oldest brother going into the new bookstore across from Fountain Square and he’s coming in off Vine Street and we hug a good, long time; it’s one of those double hugs, where you hug and, just before the release, you squeeze again.

There’s only one American demographic that’s been only mildly affected by the recent recession and credit crunches, and that’s college students — they’ve actually benefited lately from the drop in gas prices and Domino's deciding to sell two pizzas in one box.

More than 8,000 locals are expected at the 39th annual Cincinnati Earth Day celebration, one of the city’s top outdoor festivals and a tribute to all things green and eco-friendly. Performances include native flute music by Janice Tryten, contemporary Folk music by Wild Carrot and the Roots Band and Jamgrass music by the Rumpke Mountain Boys. Other attractions include live animal shows by the Cincinnati Zoo and Sunrock Farm, a recycled costume contest for kids and local environmental awards presented by Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory.

Starting out in this print business 10 years ago, I worked Christmas Day at The Cincinnati Enquirer. Besides the overtime pay, I enjoyed working major holidays because usually there was nothing to do. On this one day, I remember, I decided to pull the newsroom TVs out their cubbyholes to dust behind them.
