On a recent Saturday, my boyfriend Brian
and I headed to Woodstone Creek — I love a glass of a good red wine and
he’s always willing to sip straight whiskey, so it was the perfect place
for us to sample a selection of both.
According to Ohio law, to be considered a
business must produce less than 500 barrels of spirit a year. Woodstone
Creek, a winery, meadery and the first licensed microdistillery in the
state, only produces about 1/100th of that.
Cincinnati is home to multiple successful and
award-winning open-to-the-public urban wineries: Henke Winery, Meier’s
Wine Cellars, Vinoklet Winery and Woodstone Creek. Take a weekend to explore our local wine scene, and make the urban
wine trail trek from Meier’s Wine Cellars in Silverton all the way to
Vinoklet Winery in Colerain.
Don Outterson is Cincinnati's Willy Wonka of distillation. He and his enthusiastic wife, Linda, run Woodstone Creek, an urban winery and tasting room that's also Ohio's first mico-distillery. Their excellent vodka is widely available, and Woodstone's small-batch bourbon earned praise from whiskey authority Jim Murray.
