It’s often said that the vice president of the United States is “one heartbeat away” from the role of commander in chief. But if Veep (10 p.m., Sundays, HBO) is any indication, sometimes second-in-command is actually much further down the totem pole.  

Nathan Fielder goes beyond poking fun at these “expert takeover” series to reveal these little cultural phenomena, like what it takes to become a viral sensation or what some people are willing to do in order to be on television.

In an unaired episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, the queen of all media shocked comedians from across the country and world as she awarded each of them with their own television series. “You get a show, and you get a show — everybody gets a show!”  

Some comic actors are better identified by their characters they portray, like Ken Marino: You may know him as Auggie’s slacker step-dad; a Jewish summer camp counselor/unlikely virgin; or a Los Angeles caterer and future Soup R’ Crackers franchise owner.  

Survivor starts its 26th(!) season this week and the Queen City will see one of its own on the show as local BMX rider, entrepreneur and musician Matt Bischoff joins the “Fans vs. Favorites” showdown.  

After seven seasons of night cheese, epic eye-rolls and general hilarity, Liz Lemon and the TGS crew head to 30 Rockefeller Plaza for one last show. 30 Rock comes to an end this week with a one-hour finale (8 p.m. Thursday, NBC).
