Born in Lake Charles, La., Lucinda Williams has the keen ability to craft Southern tinged Country songs that attract both AltRock and Country fans. In her 30-year career she’s become known as a deft lyricist, which is appropriate because her father, Miller Williams, was a well-known poet. Most recently, in 2011, she released the album Blessed, which reflected upon her growth as a musician.

While it would be an overstatement to say Americana was invented solely to describe Lucinda Williams’ groundbreaking mixture of literate singer/songwriter Folk and bluesy, energized Country Rock, delivered with a twangy and soulful enunciation, she had a lot to do with its creation.

Lucinda Williams has traveled an eclectic path since her debut in the late ’70s, coming to prominence as the singer/songwriter who provided Mary Chapin Carpenter with one of her most recognized hits, “Passionate Kisses,” and ending up a bona fide Americana icon nearly a quarter century later. She has christened her tenth album Blessed, which she may well feel, given her newlywed status and a relative calm in her personal and professional life, but she’s definitely kicking at the stall door with the dozen songs that make up her new album.
