Morning Glory (Review)

Rachel McAdams shines again in this smooth-running dramedy

This smooth-running dramedy is a warm, familiar story that audiences will recognize exactly for what it is and appreciate all the same, likely because it isn't quite so heavy. And in a world where all performances are viewed equally, Rachel McAdams would be a highly touted possible Best Actress nominee for her effort here. Grade: B.

Extraordinary Measures (Review)

Medical drama too predictable for its own good

Director Tom Vaughan ('What Happens in Vegas') grinds his way through a script that does nothing but occupy 105 minutes of your life and leave you feeling vaguely more uplifted afterwards. Turn on the Oxygen or Lifetime cable channels any weeknight evening and you can achieve the same result without leaving your couch. Grade: D-plus.

Crossing Over (Review)

Writer/director Wayne Kramer traffics in immigrant collisions

With so much drama and so many crossed narrative lines, the comparisons to 'Traffic' and 'Crash' will seem blatant and overplayed, but the aim here is more tightly focused than it might initially seem. There's a lush, overgrown forest, but the tallest tree in the center is Max Brogan (Harrison Ford). He comes to illustrate all sides of the immigration debate without merely flip-flopping between positions. Grade: C.
