WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING INSTEAD OF THIS?

Existentialism in a Dog Suit

While there’s plenty of hilarious human-dog hijinks (verbalizing dog thoughts/characteristics never gets old), it’s the deep, psychological undertones that give Wilfred a dark edge not found in many other current shows (and makes it a great lead-in to Louie). While American remakes of shows tend to dumb down or lighten up, our Wilfred (with the same actor, Jason Gann, playing the title character) takes even more disturbing turns than its Australian counterpart.

Beastie Boys, Clapton and Keith Richards

The Beastie Boys have denounced a lot of their early work. Maturity and a social conscious apparently do not allow for songs about Wiffle Ball-bat rape and giant penis stage props. So it was a bit of a shock when it was reported that the Boys’ Adam Yauch is working on a short film based on the trio’s first huge hit, “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!).”

9 (Review)

Extending Shane Acker's short film improves its action, but not its story

The title refers to the number scrawled on the back of a rag doll (voiced by Elijah Wood) who wakes up with no knowledge of the world. Wandering through a crumbling, corpse-strewn city, he soon spots a similar figure marked as 2 (Martin Landau) and learns that a dangerous mechanized predator stalks the streets. Because '9' is an animated feature, it’s inevitable that some potential viewers are going to assume it's kid-friendly, which it most decidedly is not. Grade: B.
