Whether or not the
weather wants to cooperate, it’s spring, dammit. So, this weekend, grab a
popsicle, throw on your Easter best, go play in a park and celebrate the season
— even if you have to do it while wearing a sweater.
Local small-batch gourmet
opens for the season this Final Friday.
Swing by the storefront at 1437 Main Street beginning at 5 p.m. for music, a
photobooth, sammies from C’est Cheese and, of course, delicious and unique
frozen treats. The pop shop will subsequently be open 1-6 p.m. Thursday-Sunday
and the streetpops cart will make an appearance at various farmers markets and
events through fall.
You probably won’t
be able to pass a yard or park this weekend without seeing neon, plastic orbs
dotting the grass — it’s Easter egg huntin’ time, y’all! The newest community
hunt goes down at Washington Park
Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon.
troupe OTRimprov presents “The Chronicle” Saturday at Know Theatre. The
improvisational comics will take “themes, ideas, characters, words and scenarios from guest
storytellers and turn them into a beautifully chaotic series of improvised
scenes.” Tickets are just $5 and can be purchased here.

Local pastry chef/chocolatier/confectioner Shalini Latour of Chocolats Latour has seriously taken chocolate bunnies to the next level of cute by Willy Wonka-ing them into a rainbow assortment of colors. Chocolate naturally comes in brown (boring), dark brown (more boring) and white (really boring), so Latour applied some cocoa butter colors and turned her little Easter hoppers into periwinkle, lavender, flamingo, cantaloupe, sunflower and chartreuse rabbits. A chartreuse bunny! Brilliant.Each candy is made of solid, fair-trade chocolate in dark, milk or white, which is then wrapped in a compostable cellophane bag. Bunnies are available in two sizes: 7 oz. ($9.50) and 20 oz. ($24). And, sure, the painted eyes are a tad freaky, but that's easy to get over — just eat the head first. On Easter I attended a family dinner at which my ex-wife served roast leg of lamb. Thoughts of my friend Greg's words from Friday were in my head — that there's proof Jesus had lived. What would Jesus think of me eating a lamb? I started to feel guilty. But I hope that Jesus did live. If it's true, I'm sure he was a good person and someone I would have wanted to hang out with.

This month offers chocolate cappuccino Peeps cake with the Easter Bunny, vegetarian Gold Star for Lent and relaxed requirements for food stamps. What more could we ask for? Not all Easter brunches are created equal, but if you go to Mokka, Grand Finale, Greyhound Tavern or Orchids at Palm Court, you know you’ll get a good one.
