If there’s one thing that Facebook is good for, it’s learning about stuff that’s happening on the Internet. My colleague Mike Breen recently posted a humorous comment along with a story he shared titled, “Mother Tried to Sell Her Kids on Facebook for $4,000.” Mike’s take: “What an idiot! That’s what Craigslist is for!”

Missed connections — anonymous personal ads posted on websites like Craigslist — are something of a generational phenomenon. Sure, people have always shared brief moments with one another, later wishing they had said hello, given a compliment, asked for a phone number.

A short scroll down the Cincinnati Stolen Bike Network’s Facebook page reveals tale after tale of bicycles swiped outside of workplaces, bars and garages around the city. Some were stolen in the dark of night, some in broad daylight. Unfortunate owners post photographs of their beloved bikes and their relevant stats: make and model, color, unusual identifiers (like stickers or a broken pedal) and sometimes a serial number.
