It’s hard to imagine a more fantastical introduction to the world of music than Memphis teenager Booker T. Jones experienced in the early 1960s. Jones — a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member as well as recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Grammy — is one of the headliners for this year’s MidPoint Music Festival. He and his touring band will be doing swingin’ ’60s Booker T. & the MG’s classics as well as selections from Jones’ new album, The Road From Memphis.

The full schedule of performances (from an eclectic assemblage of artists that includes Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Booker T. Jones, rising Australian Indie Dance champs Cut Copy and clever Pop duo Mates of State) has been released. Many of the popular features from recent MPMFs are returning Sept. 22-24, but there are plenty of brand new ones being introduced, all designed to make the MidPoint experience even better.

If I keep pushing titles into the following week, I'll be reviewing a couple hundred CDs in December, which could actually work out pretty well. The release sheets the month before Christmas are skinnier than my 401K returns in 2008, so I'll need to hold back some material for the lean times. But for now, it's all feast and no famine. Let's check out new CDs from brakesbrakesbrakes, Booker T. (of MGs fame), Manchester Orchestra, Chairlift, Milk & Honey Band, supergroup Tinted Windows and Art Brut, plus classic vinyl from Matthew Sweet.
