Hamilton Avenue in Northside is home to a
slew of eclectic storefronts like Melt and Shake It Records, and, since
April, Northsiders have enjoyed The Listing Loon as a place to swing by
and load up on bottles of hand-selected microbrews by a couple of
Cincinnati’s tenured bartenders.
A ghost in its own right, the title track on The Hiders' new album, 'Four Letter Town,' is one that lead singer/guitarist Billy Alletzhauser kicked around for years before the band even existed. Although he calls it a "simple song," he recorded various versions, enveloped in a tricky, drawn-out struggle to harness and reveal the tune's true essence. Some songs sit and smolder before they rise up to burn and glow. Some apparitions do indeed come alive.
He calls Cincinnati music a "wild dog." Although Josh Eagle (vocals, guitar, harmonica) spent time in Hawaii last year, he's back in Northside, living like a poet in a house in the woods where he creates. With a fresh album out ('Show Your Teeth'), he seems serious and engaged. Tall and wiry, he kicks back on a picnic bench, wearing new glasses, new shoes, a new haircut.
'Skin Tight' is as much a piece of lyrical poetry as it is a play, and it's likely to be the most physical performance — wonderfully staged and choreographed by director Drew Fracher — you'll see onstage this year. Know Theatre's season opener is brief, taking you on an emotional, passionate journey that's both a lifetime and the blink of an eye.
It's back ... that musical with the mouthful name that kicked up so much excitement last summer at the 2008 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati bills Richard Oberacker's and Robert Taylor's no-plot, no-dialogue, five-person fantasia on parenting production as a premiere, and considering the changes that's close to true.
