American Primitives

Alexis O'Brien
Gallery Hours: 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday., Tuesday July 29 | Free.
Acclaimed artist Todd Slaughter's artwork takes over both levels of the Weston Art Gallery in this show that addresses the perception that safety is synonymous with isolation and privilege in gated communities of suburbia and urban high rises. Through a series of sculptural tableaux, American Primitives suggests parallels between the American individualism defined by Thoreau and Emerson and its contemporary extreme — isolationist groups and individuals that feel that they, too, are manifesting core American values.

A gallery talk with the artist is held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26.
