The AEC in Covington, Ky. is pleased to announce the exhibition Faces and Figures, featuring drawings and paintings by thirteen current or former Cincinnatians, guest curated by aeqai Editor and independent curator Daniel Brown. This exhibition combines the immediacy of drawings, some finished, others working or timed sketches, with oil sketches and completed paintings. Viewers are to see the various steps in the process from idea to execution. The exhibition shows a range of possible artistic styles from the relatively Classical to the completely Expressionist, and from the representational to the more nearly abstract, so this show is both didactic and sensory. The artists also represent a spectrum of ages, ranging from those in their twenties to those in their late sixties: the generations will speak to one another through their art and their approaches to artmaking, mark making, and interpretive sensibility. During the run of this exhibition AEC invites several of these artists to draw from the figure as a kind of performance, so those who watch can see how different artists approach the human face and figure.
