Spring Awakening

Holly Rouse
8 p.m., Saturday June 01 | $18-$20.50

Showbiz Players presents Spring Awakening, a musical which takes its inspiration from Frank Wedekind's play of the same name; one of literature's most controversial masterpieces – a work so daring in its depiction of teenage self-discovery, it was banned from the stage and not performed in its complete form in English for nearly 100 years. Set in turn-of-the-century Germany, Spring Awakening is a tragic love story between innocent Wendla and bookish Melchior; its hard-hitting commentary on social repression and alternative rock music by Duncan Sheik sets the stage for potent, electrifying theater.
