Macy's Artswave Sampler: Classic to Contemporary

Emmi MacIntyre
11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Saturday March 02

Following in the annual tradition to include classical and contemporary repertoire, Ballet Theatre Midwest presents From Classics to Contemporary, three exciting pieces that are sure to please all ages. This eclectic performance will feature music with Gustavo Dudamel leading the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela in a program of Latin American music: Ginastera's dances from the ballet Estancia. An attractive piece that's full of surprises. Arturo Márquez's elegant Danzón No. 2, which has been called Mexico's second national anthem. The youthful orchestra plays with the panache and assurance of a professional ensemble. Much of this music is dance-based, and it allows the players to really rock. Children will have the opportunity to meet and dance with the performers and tea party treats for everyone!
