Music: Clifton Heights Music Festival

0 Comments · Tuesday, September 28, 2010
You might recognize him next to a shot of Jack Daniels, a Newcastle and a few friends in any bar around Clifton Heights, but when not out with friends Rome Ntukogu is busy planning the Clifton Heights Music Festival and keeping it focused on his passion: furthering unity in a community through music and art. Ntukogu found a passion for it by creating smaller events while he was managing bars around Clifton Heights. The festival is Friday and Saturday nights at five clubs around the UC campus.

Events: Cincinnati Hispanic Fest

The Cincinnati Hispanic Fest is a two-day fiesta with plenty to do. Come out and celebrate the growing Hispanic community in Southern Ohio with entertainment stretching from dancers to DJs. The live entertainment runs for 11 hours each day and plenty of food will be available to sustain a long day of dancing. For those who are less dancing inclined, there should be plenty of live music and beer to revel in. Grab your friends and your dancing shoes and get out to the Hamilton County Fairgrounds this weekend.

"The human race has only one really effective weapon, and that is laughter," Mark Twain once said. If he knew what was going on at Sawyer Point this weekend, I think he'd have tacked on a little something about Cincinnati creating world peace with all the laughter it will experience. Cincy Brew Ha-Ha! is back and truly is better than ever.

Life is complicated and sometimes it's helpful to take a step back and slow down. In those times, turn to Hoots and Hellmouth, an Americana/Folk foursome from Philadelphia consisting of Sean Hoots, Andrew Gray, Robert Berliner and John Branigan. These foot-stompin' fellas take two guitars, an upright bass, a mandolin and some spectacular vocal harmonies and wrap listeners in a blanket of uplifting music.

Music: T.V. Mike and The Scarecrowes

Indiana is probably a good place to grow up if you're going to make Country music, and moving to California to help push along a burgeoning career probably isn't a bad idea either. T.V. Mike and the Scarecrowes did just that. They now reside in the Bay Area and have been heating up the local scene and will be swinging by Mayday Wednesday for a small hootenanny.

T.V. Mike and the Scarecrowes now reside in the Bay Area and have been heating up the local scene. After recently earning "Band of the Month" honors from The Deli Magazine's San Francisco music scene publication, T.V. Mike and his crew are ready for bigger things. They play Mayday on Wednesday with The Fervor and Great Young Hunters.

A short description of this probably isn't going to do it justice, but I'll try. Turntables 'n' Snares is on four stages Friday at Grammer's in Over-the-Rhine, with 10 local bands and 10 local DJs playing 10 separate sets each combining one band and one DJ into an onstage mash-up.
