Residents offer options to landfill expansion

Some Colerain Township residents are proposing methods for drastically reducing or halting the thousands of tons of trash that's dumped daily into Mount Rumpke, the landfill nicknamed for its distinction as Hamilton County's highest point. Colerain Township's Property Owners Want Equal Rights (POWER) and Ohio Citizen Action have banded together for an effort dubbed the Good Neighbor Campaign.

If you work, do business or have come downtown for dinner in the past few days you've probably noticed you need some extra change to park on the street. In the past week, the city began phasing in its new parking rate structure, doubling the cost for street parking downtown from $1 to $2 per hour. It costs more to park in city-owned lots and garages, too.

Greater Cincinnati's air will soon become a little less smoggy thanks to money from President Obama's economic stimulus plan. The city of Cincinnati and Hamilton County will add 22 new alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles to their fleets after being awarded a slice of an $11 million Clean Cities Grant aimed at cleaning up Ohio's air.

Cincinnati officials are considering a major policy shift on helping homeless people that could result in many getting their own homes. Based on the recommendations of an advisory group, City Council might reallocate some of its funding into a “Housing First” approach.
