What's a better way to celebrate the heat of summer than to wander around in it for three days perusing arts and crafts and enjoying fine live entertainment? Summerfair at Coney Island features more than 400 visual and performing artists from Friday to Sunday showing work ranging from drawing and printmaking to fiber and leatherwork and more.

The creepiest annual event returns to the Cincinnati Museum Center Saturday for a seventh year. And this year's Bugfest promises to be as informational, crawly and kind of gross as ever. Check out the Insect Tastings, where you can dip your bug of choice in a chocolate fountain and eat it. Yum!

See the future of design when DAAPWORKS 2010 displays the best of the brightest in all of DAAP's design and art programs. See works from the college programs in architecture, art education, community planning, digital design, fashion design, fine arts, graphic design, industrial design, interior design and urban planning. All of this talent will be crammed into DAAP's Aronoff Center for Design and Art and UC's Meyers Gallery.

Humans and their furry, four-legged friends are invited to the eighth annual SPCA Doggie Dash "walk for kindness," which helps support the SPCA's mission to prevent cruelty to animals. Saturday's two-mile walk kicks off at Sawyer Point. Day-of registration begins at 9 a.m.

As the nation's longest running culinary arts festival, the annual Taste of Cincinnati brings over 40 restaurants out of their storefronts and into booths to line six blocks of Fifth Street with their special/favorite menu items, all for your gastronomic pleasure. Participating restaurants include Shanghai Mamas, The Melting Pot, Washington Platform, Bella Luna, Andy's and more. Along with delicious food there will be beer booths and live music from bands like You You're Awesome and The Hood Internet. Noon-midnight Saturday and Sunday; noon-9 p.m. Monday.   

Attractions: Flying Trapeze School

Newport on the Levee will be home to a 32-foot-tall Flying Trapeze School operated by a member of the Cincinnati Circus Company, outside Brio Tuscan Grille. Two-hour high-flying trapeze lessons are offered to anyone age 13 and up and run Thursday through Sunday through mid-October, for $35-$55. Reservations are required.

Celebrate the "explosive and experimental" return of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Art Academy's Childlaw Gallery with tasty snacks from Mixx Ultra Lounge and Washington Platform. Then head over to Know Theatre's Underground around 9 p.m. for live music and the launch of the 2010 Fringe Nightly News. A $5 suggested donation gets you into both locations for the evening.

The 41st annual Appalachian Festival brings the cultural traditions of Appalachia to Coney Island with down-home crafts, storytellers, traditional dance performances, home-cookin' and live music from bands like Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Calamity Rain, Wild Carrot & The Roots Bands, Rabbit Hash String Band and more. Friday through Sunday at Coney Island.
