Confused in Colerain

Dear Maija, I recently started drinking Hudy Delight because I think it's really novel to drink beer that was made in Cincinnati. I also think it's great that Burger is back in production even though it tastes like it has nickels in it. Anyway, I'm a little bit disappointed in Hudy after seeing their latest commercial.

Lunch doesn’t get cheaper than 60 cents, and to celebrate their 60th anniversary, Skyline is throwing a party from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Fountain Square with 60-cent Coneys. Skyline will also be announcing the winner of the Skyline For Life Sweepstakes, a person who may eventually get sick of Coneys. And there will also be a variety of entertainment ranging from jugglers to marching bands and Coney cut-outs for you to take your picture with.

Broke Bearcat

Dear Maija, A couple of my bros got a hold of a state-used ID printing machine and are about to make mass money selling fakes to other kids at UC. Would you judge me if I got my Cancun money doing this?

To celebrate the Saturday opening of 'Secrets of Egypt, Lost Egypt,' the Museum Center at Union Terminal is throwing Pharaohfest. Accommpanying a slew of activities is free live music from locals The Sundresses, The Kentucky Struts, Eclipse and Mia Carruthers & the Retros.

Events: Donauschwaben Oktoberfest

As the only Oktoberfest in the region that actually happens in October, Donauschwaben’s event occurs simultaneously with Munich’s world-famous Oktoberfest. And much like Munich’s event, here you can gorge yourself on brats, sauerkrat, spatzle and all sorts of other authentic German offerings (suckling pig included). There will be a bunch of imported beers like Warsteiner, Spaten and Franziskaner, as well as wine. And, in a vein of authenticity, there will be music groups directly from Germany and Austria throughout the weekend. Friday-Sunday.

Events: Pharaohfest

Now that the dinosaurs have left the building, Union Terminal is getting ready to welcome another group of the long since dead: mummies. To celebrate the opening of 'Secrets of Egypt, Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, Modern Science' and the OMNIMAX's 'Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs,' the Museum Center is throwing Pharaohfest. From 2-10:30 p.m. you can "party like an Egyptian" with some of the best musicians, chefs, designers and artists in the area. There will be a Cincinnati's Got Talent! competition, an Iron Chef-style Cincy's Top Future Chef event, a Cincy Runway fashion show with a reprise of the 2009 UC DAAP fashion show and live music from Indie bands like The Sundresses.

Art: Before I Start Singing at Semantics

Saturday marks the opening of a long-awaited solo show (his last was in November of 2005) by Publico co-founder Paul Coors. The Art Academy graduate will present a collection of editioned silkscreen-based works along with a handful of drawings in Before I Start Singing. The artwork in this exhibit will focus on how form and content come together in “protest, consumption and agency."

Annoyed in Anderson

I find it completely unfair how the media treats our celebrities, and since you’re in the media I have a little question to ask you: Shut up, I’m not even going to ask you a question. You’re just going to talk more shit about Kanye acting like a dick or David Hasselhoff getting wasted.

Friday Pick: The Lions Rampant

Cincinnati bad boys continue to have fun doing bad things

0 Comments · Tuesday, September 22, 2009
I recently sat down with Stuart MacKenzie from The Lions Rampant in a semi-professional setting (The Comet) to discuss the band's new album, 'It's Fun to Do Bad Things.' But instead of focusing on leather pants, his Sammy Hagar-esque blond ambition and Rock & Roll, the convo veered off the record into his love life and other things he doesn't want his mom to read about.
