'Restaurant Impossible' to Take Over Mason Eatery

Food Network show will renovate Aponte's Pizzeria

Food Network's Restaurant: Impossible is returning to the Cincinnati area after shooting an episode in town last year. The king of biceps himself, host Robert Irvine, helped renovate Rohrer’s Tavern in North Bend in 2012 and must have fallen in love with the area because on June 12 and 13 he’s back with his crew to help out Aponte’s Pizzeria in Mason.

On the show, Irvine and his team come to help a struggling restaurant with new recipes, business advice and $10,000 to spend on renovations. They only have two days to find out just what the establishment is lacking and fix it in time for the public relaunch. The grand reopening of Aponte’s takes place on June 13 at 7 p.m., but here’s the kicker — the restaurant's already booked for the grand re-opening. So if you had a hankerin’ for some good old Aponte’s pizza and have been a loyal customer for years, you may be out of luck.

If you do see a Food Network crew and a British fella with large pectorals running in the area, at least you know what’s going on now.

Go here see how Rohrer's Tavern is doing post-Irvine.

Coming Distractions: 'Mad Men,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'Psych'

Upcoming shows and recent TV announcements

Mad Men’s highly anticipated fifth season returns to AMC March 25 with a 2-hour premiere. The episode is titled “A Little Kiss,” spurring plenty of speculations — will Don remarry? Get back with Betty? AMC is airing all previous seasons with an episode each Sunday at 6 a.m. So, unless you’re my grandma, set your DVR and catch up on all things Don Draper. In the past, each season factors in the elapsed time since the previous season’s finale, so Season 5 may pick up a year-and-a-half later, possibly in 1967.

HBO’s Game of Thrones also returns this spring with high expectations. Season 2 of the medieval fantasy drama is back April 1 with a slew of new characters to join last season’s favorites (like Tyrion Lannister, who Peter Dinklage won an Emmy and Golden Globe for portraying). Game of Thrones is based off George R.R. Martin’s series of novels, A Song of Ice and Fire. The second season is set to cover events as portrayed in A Clash of Kings, the second book of the series. There will be dragons!

Roseanne fans, rejoice! The comedienne-turned-insane person is working on a new working-class comedy, Downwardly Mobile, about a trailer park and its outspoken owner. John Goodman (who played Roseanne’s husband on the popular sitcom) is set to co-star as one of her employees. Though the series is not in production yet, NBC has picked up the pilot.

Anyone familiar with noted psychic detective duo Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) from USA’s Psych knows that when the actors who play the series’ main characters pop in front of their computers for a dual announcement that something big is in the works. The current video offering at usanetwork.com does not disappoint: Sitting in front of a split screen, Roday dramatically announces that, with the blessing of Alan Alda, he has decided to buy a new belt. In addition, Psyche has been picked up for a seventh season, which means, according to Hill, that “Shawn, Gus, Jules, Lassie and the whole gang will be back to solve more crime in the crime capital of the world, Santa Barbara.” (“You know that’s right.”) Season 6 resumes Feb. 29.

Feist and Martin de Thurah to Visit Contemporary Arts Center

Musician-filmmaker duo present a screening and talk at CAC

Singer-songwriter Feist and award-winning filmmaker Martin de Thurah will present a musically-charged evening at the Contemporary Arts Center April 9. Feist and de Thurah (who's worked with Kanye West, Fever Ray and Röyksopp) will discuss the creative process of creating a music video, a perfect event to coincide with the CAC's current exhibit Spectacle: The Music Video.

The duo will present a video screening followed by a talk moderated by Spectacle curator and Flux creative collective member Jonathan Wells. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. event, and admission is $15 for CAC members, $20 for everyone else. There will be a cash bar. Buy tickets in advance here.

Feist and de Thurah collaborated on the singer's video for "The Bad in Each Other."

The CAC has hosted some exceptional events lately, bringing electronic musician Dan Deacon to Spectacle's opening party this February, and welcoming street artist Shepard Fairey back to DJ a reception in his honor just last week. This is sure to be another full house party.

My Night with Tim Gunn

Project Runway mentor, author, fashion guru and catch phrase king Tim Gunn stopped by Cincinnati this weekend as he opened the 2012 SmartTalk ConnectedConversations speaker series at the Aronoff Center. Gunn, who I envision as that proverbial angel on everyone's shoulder, was just as sweet in person as on TV.

'Twilight' Convention Comes to Cincinnati

Still kicking yourself over missing all the Twilight action during July's Comic-Con International in San Diego?

Cricket Sound

Well fear not, fanpires, because the Official Twilight Convention is coming to Cincinnati!

Whether you're Team Edward or Team Jacob (Spoiler Alert: neither of them will be there), The Hyatt Regency Downtown is the spot to be Saturday and Sunday for all hardcore Twilight fans. The weekend will include contests, web panels, auctions, music, parties and costumes on mannequins.

                                          IT'S LIKE THEY'RE REALLY HERE!

Of course, a film saga convention would be nothing without celebrity appearances. Twilight stars making a stop in Cincy include Tinsel Korey (Emily), Boo Boo Stewart (werewolf Seth Clearwater), Kiowa Gordon (werewolf Embry Call), Charlie Bewley (vamp Demetri) and Peter Facinelli (Dr. Carlisle Cullen).

Wait a minute…Mike Dexter is Edward's dad?

Peter_Facinelli_mike_dexter.jpg

He's come a long way since idolizing Trip McNeely.

OK, honestly, I've never seen more than a preview for Twilight, so I'm not going to rage about how bad it sucks (see what I did there?) and how cray-cray the fans are. But I must say, the fan photos aren't making a good case for Twi-hards.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

Exhibit C:

But, seriously, I guess it's cool that these actors will stand around rabidly crazy fans barreling full-speed toward puberty us normal people for a weekend. Apparently these stars will even allow fans to hug:

kiss:

and make complete asses of them:

The convention runs all day and night Saturday and Sunday starting around 11 a.m. Day passes are $20 and weekend packages run from $39-$219. Autographs, photos, breathing the same air as Peter Facinelli, etc. all are an additional cost. Go here to get the full schedule and ticket info for the convention. And full disclosure, if this was a True Blood convention with supporting characters from the show, I'd be frothing at the mouth like the rest of these crazy bitches.

I Just Can't Get Enough

Jac's roundup of pop culture news and Internet findings

Election season is over! Regardless of how you voted, I think we can all celebrate the fact that our portals to pop culture — television, radio, social media and the rest of the Internet — will no longer be clogged with annoying political rants, campaign advertisements and baseless polls, making more room for puppy cams, nail art blogs, unflattering celebrity photos and other important things the American people deserve.

But, since we’re talking politics, this week we witnessed what can only be described as the best Rom-com of 2012. Here’s a sampling of the finest presidential gifs:
