The Bill Goodman Gun Show from a Fly on the Wall

Author's note: Let me preface this article by saying that my position on guns teeters along with current events. The recent struggle between a Cincinnati Police Officer and a misguided teen that resulted in the boy’s death is the perfect example of why gun ownership can never be taken lightly. The fact is guns were built as a tool for killing. That said, I believe that most gun owners understand the power of the gun they hold in their hands and do not take it lightly. People should certainly be allowed to own guns but they must understand each weapon's deadly potential.

My Romantic Evening at White Castle

White Castle is the oldest fast-food burger joint in the country, serving up savory, moist cardboard-like mini sandwiches for 90 years. That's right, back when people enjoyed a night of Prohibition-grade bathtub gin, they could wash it down with some sliders.

Feist and Martin de Thurah to Visit Contemporary Arts Center

Musician-filmmaker duo present a screening and talk at CAC

Singer-songwriter Feist and award-winning filmmaker Martin de Thurah will present a musically-charged evening at the Contemporary Arts Center April 9. Feist and de Thurah (who's worked with Kanye West, Fever Ray and Röyksopp) will discuss the creative process of creating a music video, a perfect event to coincide with the CAC's current exhibit Spectacle: The Music Video.

The duo will present a video screening followed by a talk moderated by Spectacle curator and Flux creative collective member Jonathan Wells. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. event, and admission is $15 for CAC members, $20 for everyone else. There will be a cash bar. Buy tickets in advance here.

Feist and de Thurah collaborated on the singer's video for "The Bad in Each Other."

The CAC has hosted some exceptional events lately, bringing electronic musician Dan Deacon to Spectacle's opening party this February, and welcoming street artist Shepard Fairey back to DJ a reception in his honor just last week. This is sure to be another full house party.

Best. Snowball. Fight. Ever.

Don’t have a date for Valentine’s Day? Pissed off about all the publicity that corporate media give Sarah Palin? Mad that shows like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition still are on TV? Just bored?

No matter the reason for your frustration, you can release some of that energy by attending “Cincinnati’s Largest Snowball Fight!,” planned for Sunday afternoon, Feb. 14.

My Night with Tim Gunn

Project Runway mentor, author, fashion guru and catch phrase king Tim Gunn stopped by Cincinnati this weekend as he opened the 2012 SmartTalk ConnectedConversations speaker series at the Aronoff Center. Gunn, who I envision as that proverbial angel on everyone's shoulder, was just as sweet in person as on TV.

StreetScapes Celebrates Local Talent

Tenth annual street-chalking fest took over Clifton this weekend

Walking passed the "Road Closed" signs on Ludlow Avenue and into the StreetScapes and Cliftonfest street festival, I felt as if I stepped back into time and into an old, vibrant European town.

There were more than the usual amount of eccentric local musicians and artists gathered at every corner in the Clifton Gaslight business district this weekend as Clifton celebrated this tenth annual festival. Walking down the block on the gorgeous fall day was a breath of fresh air as I saw familiar faces enjoying the talents of local artists and taking time out of their busy lives to slow down and celebrate their neighborhood.

In celebration of this ancient tradition that was started in 1972 in the Italian village of Grazie di Curtatone, Ludlow and Telford Avenues were closed from Sept. 28-30. The streets were transformed into a canvas for creative artists, a market for local businesses and a stage for talented musicians.
