Cincinnati native Kathleen Sebelius is leaving her job as Kansas governor to become the new Secretary of Health and Human Services. President Obama announced her appointment this afternoon at the White House.
She fills the cabinet spot originally intended for former Sen. Tom Daschle.
Sebelius will oversee Medicare, Medicaid, the Food & Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health and will be the face of the major health care reform Obama wants to enact.
Sebelius' father, John Gilligan, was Ohio Governor from 1971 to 1975. He currently lives in Clifton.
