After all was said and done, the frontrunner got the job.

As widely predicted during the past week, Greg Harris was formally selected today to take the seat on Cincinnati City Council that was vacated when John Cranley resigned.

The decision was made by council’s Democrats — Jeff Berding, Laketa Cole, David Crowley and Cecil Thomas — with advice and input from Mayor Mark Mallory and Hamilton County Democratic Party Chairman Tim Burke.

Harris, 37, works as a public policy officer at KnowledgeWorks Foundation and is a former Miami University instructor. He placed 15th in the 2007 council race and ran twice unsuccessfully for Steve Chabot’s congressional seat, in 2002 and 2004.

He lives in West Price Hill with his wife, Angela, and two children.

Others who interviewed to get the seat were Tony Fischer, Brian Garry, Rocky Merz, Dave Schaff, Bernadette Watson and Wendell Young.
