Tobey Maguire has reached a settlement in a lawsuit that claims the Spider-Man star won more than $300,000 from an allegedly illegitimate poker ring organized by a Beverly Hills hedge-fund manager who is now doing time. Maguire shelled out $80,000 to kill the lawsuit, which was filed back in March by a trustee for investors who were looking to get their money back.

Maguire, along with fellow A-listers Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio, collected a hefty chunk of change during several invitation-only Texas Hold ‘Em games during 2007 and 2008 but was the only one named in the suit. Brad Ruderman, the brains of the operation, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for creating a Ponzi scheme that skimmed more than $25 million in investor funds to pay off his debts.

Tom Hanks, along with his production company Playtone, are planning to produce the nonfiction bestselling novel In the Garden of Beasts, by Erik Larson. In the Garden documents the life of U.S. ambassador William Dodd and his kinfolk while Dodd was stationed in Berlin during the rise of Hitler’s Nazi party.

Delma Kinney, 50, of Atlanta has won his second $1 million Georgia Lottery prize. Kinney, a single father of three, won his first million back in 2008 and put aside a portion of his winnings for their college education. With his most recent winnings, Kinney says he’ll donate a portion to charity.

An 8-year-old Cleveland boy who weighs more than 200 pounds has been taken from his family and placed into foster care after county social workers said his mother was not doing enough to control her son’s weight.

The 2011 Soul Train Awards paid tribute to Heavy D, who died of respiratory distress earlier this month, by performing some of his biggest hits in mashup fashion. Performers include Big Daddy Kane, Goodie Mob and Kurtis Blow.

My home country of Sweden is proposing a new ban on having sex with animals. “We know that there is a great risk of the animals being used this way are harmed by it,” said Eva Eriksson, County Governor of Värmland. Erikson has been working on the law since 2009 and she says now is the time for “major societal changes.”

Today it is very easy, on the internet and other places, to encounter animals for sexual intercourse and there are also many more reports of this happening,” said Eriksson.
