Wyclef Jean (ex-Refugee/ex-Hatian politico/soon-to-be-ex-leader of charities and the like) was somehow only able to find less than a third of the $16 million he gathered for the earthquake relief in Haiti. The New York Post reported Sunday that Jean’s charity, Yele Haiti, actually handed out millions of dollars to what looks like nothing, including $1 million being paid to a firm in Florida that doesn’t exist. According to the report, Yele Haiti even donated $250,000 to a Haitian TV station owned by Jean and his cousin Jerry Duplessis. “Have we made mistakes before? Yes,” Jean said back in 2010. “Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefits? Absolutely not. Yele’s books are open and transparent.” Yele Haiti is yet to respond to the new charges.
