And he's not done yet: Fincher's American version of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is currently in production and has a release date of Dec. 20. How’s that for an early Christmas present?
The film’s first official trailer dropped this week. For those curious about how Fincher might put his own spin on a film that was already done quite well in Larsson's native Sweden, one thing remains the same: Rooney Mara’s aesthetic take on the book’s gothed-out, bisexual, tech-savvy protagonist Lisbeth Salander looks strikingly similar to Noomi Rapace’s earlier Swedish film version — and is a long way from Mara’s fresh-faced coed in The Social Network.
trailer. Check the song that drives it, a cover of Led Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O and Trent Reznor, whose score for The Social Network yielded an Oscar for the NIN frontdude.
And don’t forget the international promo poster, a bold piece of marketing that features a topless, nipple-pierced Mara with costar Daniel Craig's arm draped around her. Somehow I doubt this version of the poster will be hanging in a local multiplex near you.
