Shake It Offers New Wussy, Talib for RSD

Nationally recognized as one of the best record stores in the Midwest, it makes sense that Northside’s Shake It Records would go all out on the forthcoming global Record Store Day (April 16). Besides offering many of the limited-edition RSD exclusives being released by everyone from Blitzen Trapper, Yeasayer and Built to Spill to Television and The Velvet Underground (for the full list of exclusives, click here), the store/label is also issuing its own exclusive release from Shake It recording artists Wussy. And they’ll be hosting an in-store appearance by modern Hip Hop hero Talib Kweli.

Last year, Shake It released a special Seedy Seeds 7-inch single for Record Store Day.

This year, a special CD by local faves Wussy will be made available. The release is an entire acoustic recreation of Wussy’s debut LP Funeral Dress dubbed Funeral Dress II. The band recorded the project live last fall at the local Ultrasuede studio. Only 500 hand-stamped and -numbered copies of the Funeral Dress II CDs will be made. Wussy is tentatively scheduled to perform at the store on Record Store Day at 9 p.m. until closing time.

Talib Kweli, no stranger to Cincy thanks to his work with local DJ Hi-Tek, will appear at Shake It on April 16 for a Q&A session and meet-and-greet. The time is still being finalized, but it should start around 5 p.m.
