The iconic Roebling Suspension Bridge reopened Friday after seven months of painting and repairs. Despite some talk about painting it brown to replicate the original color scheme when it opened in 1866, the "blue bridge" remains blue.

New lights are still being installed, with the official relighting scheduled for tonight to coincide with the Bengals-Steelers Monday Night Football broadcast.

Speaking of which, Fountain Square will be a beehive of activity starting at 4:45 this afternoon, with live music and tailgating leading up to the live football broadcast on the jumbotron video screen.

I detoured from my normal drive into work this morning to cross the Roebling Bridge, and the hum of the metal roadway on the car tires was a comfort as always. It always makes me think of the opening to The Afghan Whigs' excellent 1993 album Gentlemen — the first track "If I Were Going" features the hum of a car driving over the Roebling Bridge underneath the entire song.
