Lions Rampant Debuts New Video Tonight

If you attend tonight’s free MidPoint Indie Summer show on Fountain Square, you’ll not only have a chance to check out some excellent local bands (Buffalo Killers, The Guitars, Soapland and The Lions Rampant), but you’ll also be among the first to see the brand new Lions Rampant music video for the song “Crazy or a Liar?,” to be screened on the Square’s giant video board.

The video — made with a local cast and crew and produced by Chad Shack and Nate Clark — is, as one would expect from the Lions, more raucous fun, a sort of erotic fantasy/nightmare set in a jungle full of gorgeous natives who creep, prowl and ultimately (spoiler alert!) devour lead singer/guitarist Stuart MacKenzie.

Spliced with performance footage, it’s another high-quality, entertaining video from the band, which has also made similarly-toned clips for the song “Lights On” and the title track from the recent full-length, It’s Fun to Do Bad Things.

“Crazy or a Liar?” is from the band’s forthcoming debut 7-inch release, which will also include the smokin’, Stoogey “The Push and Pull.” The vinyl single and video are a part of an interesting project the band is working on this year. Plans are to record two songs with some of their favorite producers and then release a 7-inch (and accompanying video) of each. These first sessions (marking the band’s first recordings with new drummer Matthew Ayers, also of The Guitars) were done with Chicago’s Mike Lust, who has worked with bands like Russian Circles and Catfish Haven. The band is already working on the next two releases with Brian Olive and Brian Niesz. The group is planning on releasing five singles/videos over the next several months.

With each new single/video, the band will be offering the record in a package that includes free downloads of the songs as well as a high-resolution download of the accompanying video.

The “Crazy or a Liar?” set will get an official release on Sept. 11 when the Lions play a “Bon Voyage” show at downtown’s Mainstay Rock Bar, their last local gig (aside from an appearance at the MidPoint Music Festival in late September) before heading to the U.K. Sept. 30 for a string of tour dates.
