Walls, floors and tables host bat sculptures and painted benches on their way to new owners or new auctions. Benches, tote bags, ceramics, wooden sculptures, pig paraphernalia and other works are on display here as well. Some works are for sale. Some are already sold. All are on their way out. The gallery looks like an artisan retail shop, and right now that's just what it is.
"This is our holiday sale," says Amanda Hogan Carlisle, curator for ArtWorks. "We have so many amazing works of art, we wanted to get them out here, and it's nice to have our own space to show them off."
Next month, ArtWorks will show summer apprentices' editorial cartoons (see Cincinnati's Generation Vexed, issue of Sept. 17-23). In February, there will be a Valentine's Day show curated by Laura Hollis and The Artery. As for what the rest of next year's gallery offerings are, that's up in the air.
The themes for the space will emerge in the coming months. Shooting for monthly openings, the gallery's new season aims to ignite art participation in downtown.
