The quartet dive into their aggressive songs with utter disdain for everything. While heavy in that modern Aggro-Metal vein, the band won't easily be mistaken for any of the MTV Metal boys. Chris Boone's vocals are a big reason why they're so different, singing with a glaring, backwoods howl that recalls bands like Nine Pound Hammer and Scratch Acid. Underneath, the bass rips like bones breaking, the drums whirl like a hailstorm and guitarist Dave Campbell holds down the fort with some plump, slicing riffs. Southern Rock has always had a swagger; Spite give it a heavy, hardcore dose of danger.
At Top Cat's on Tuesday with Karma to Burn, Oxboard Drain and Afterall.
