Not too long ago, when Van Halen lost singer No. 3 (aka That Guy From Extreme), VH singer No. 2, Sammy Hagar, said the only way he'd go back to the group is if original singer David Lee Roth also came back and they shared vocal duties for a tour (the "Sam and Dave Tour," as he called it). Such an idea seems like an impossibility, but, as thrash-and-burn masters Anthrax have shown, sometimes you can put the b.s.

aside and kick out the jams successfully. The band are currently touring in support of Return of the Killer A's, a greatest hits package, that features both original, Maiden-esque singer Joey Belladonna and the grungier John Bush on separate tracks and together on a new cover of The Temptations' "Ball of Confusion." The "Ball" session must have worked, because the band will be bringing both vocalists out on the road in what should be a pretty interesting night of mayhem and moshing to the hits.

With Fu Manchu and The Unband at Annie's on Tuesday.

M.B.
