Human Rights Program
"Diversity: Engaging Your Global Future Now" is the theme of the Center for American and World Cultures' fall program series that culminates in the annual Human Rights and Social Justice Day Nov. 14. The series at Miami University in Oxford includes "Pieces of Power: Cultural Empowerment Through the Visual Arts," a symposium from 9 a.m.5 p.m. Oct. 26, at the Shriver Center Heritage Room; "Latino Immigrants: Hidden in Ohio" by writer and activist Dan La Botz at 4:30 p.m.
Nov. 6 in 212 MacMillan Hall; "Higher Ground: New Hope for Working Families and Their Children" at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 8, in 100 Laws Hall; and Human Rights and Social Justice Day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 14 in Shriver Center multipurpose rooms A-C. Stand for Peace
The Women in Black have been steadfast in demonstrating against the war in Iraq since it started in 2003. Participants gather with signs in the traffic island at Vine Street and Central Parkways from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays. All peacemakers are welcome, including men and people not dressed in black.
