Tim Story (the first two Fantastic Four movies, Barbershop) gathers the gang from the adaptation of Steve Harvey’s bestselling relationship advice tome (Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man) for dueling bachelor/bachelorette parties in Las Vegas and, of course, a series of misadventures will tie the couples up in knots before the inevitable all’s-well-that-ends-well conclusion.
Story appears to have found an onscreen partner-in-crime in Kevin Hart (the second outing here serves as a warm-up for the follow-up to their not-so surprising hit Ride Along from earlier this year), but in this time he relinquishes too much control to Hart, allowing the comic performer to bounce around all over the place like a rich kid in a candy factory that he owns. To make matters worse, everyone else involved adopts Hart’s scattershot approach. The actors never find a rhythm or space to inhabit scenes, the editing is disjointed and even the frames become cluttered with hyper movement and too many characters packed in like sardines. There’s no point to the chaos brewing here, no thought or guiding principle. Think Like A Man Too is an entirely overlong music video for a remix of a song that wasn’t as big a hit the first time around as everyone thought. Now in theaters. (PG-3) Grade: D+
